Have you tamed your tongue?
Sometimes, when we think about this famous passage from the Book of James, chapter 3, we think of foul language and angry words, but the way human beings express themselves is myriad. Speaking directly to one another, speaking about someone behind his or her back, describing someone else’s virtues and vices, speaking without thinking, droning on and on about a point, flubbing our words, verbal gaffs, posting on social media…
All of these forms of expression come under the warnings of James 3, which explains why James is adamant that not everyone should aspire to be teachers and leaders, because the more public you are, the more difficult it can be to keep all our various forms of expression in check.
On this episode of The DBC Podcast, Jeff Reams and Allen Taliaferro are back again for another conversational go-round, this time sharing their own experiences with verbal failures and fiery tongues. We seek to determine why God intrusted his message of salvation to flawed, foot-in-mouth humans, and how that gracious intention serves as a continual encouragement to grow not only in faith, but in speech.
