“It is by grace you have been saved, through faith…”
Good news, right?
“… and this is not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Even better news, right?
“For we are what He has made us, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared beforehand to be our way of life.”
Well, hang on, isn’t it all about grace?
On this episode of The DBC Podcast, the conversation turns to that inevitable tension today’s Christians feel when we start talking about the relationship between grace and works. So much of the Protestant tradition is founded on the principle of “justification by faith alone” (that is, we are saved through no qualifying work of our own). However, modern evangelical culture sometimes forgets Ephesians 2:10, which reminds us that while we are saved by grace through faith, we are saved for works. God indeed has a job for us. Several jobs, really. And the grace He bestows is the same grace that makes it possible to accomplish those prepared works He has for us.
On this episode, Bo is joined by two first-time co-hosts – a pair of Katies. Katie Phillips serves through DBC as volunteer director of 1 Family Orphan Care Ministries, and Katy Swilley is an integral part of the church staff as the Assimilation Coordinator for DBC. Both of these ladies wear many hats: wives, mothers, daughters, ministry leaders, the list goes on and on. As you’ll hear, both have recognized how important it is to lean into the grace God offers in order to truly accomplish the works He desires “to be our way of life.”
