How to Listen to The DBC Podcast

There are several different ways to enjoy the The DBC Podcast, and each one involves several important steps in order to get the most out of listening. See below for the different ways to find the show online and how to go about listening to each one…

Download & Subscribe Via the iTunes Podcast App

This is the most popular and effective way to listen to our show, but it requires a couple of steps to properly access the show.

Step 1 – Go to the App Store app on your Apple iPhone, iPad, or iPod to download the Podcast app. Or, if you have a newer device or recent version of iOS, go straight to the iTunes Podcast App. (You can also download the Soundcloud app if you prefer, the instructions for which are detailed later in this post.)

Step 2 – Open the Podcast app. In the bottom menu bar, tap the ‘Search’ icon. In the search bar, type ‘DBC Podcast’ and tap ‘Search.’ “the dbc podcast” appear as the only option. Tap it to continue.

Step 3 – You will see several different episodes of The DBC Podcast alongside our logo. If you click the small cloud with the downward arrow next to each episode title, the episode will download to your phone so you can listen to it wherever you take your device. (NOTE: If you have multiple iOS devices, depending on the “sharing” settings on each, the episode may download to more than one of your devices.)

Step 4 – In the future, if you would like to forego searching for the show and downloading the individual episode, we recommend you tap the ‘Podcasts’ tab at the top. The DBC Podcast will be the top choice. Tapping on it will open the full page with all the episodes in order from most recent to oldest. Near the top right of the screen, you will see a “Subscribe” button. By tapping this, you will add The DBC Podcast to the “My Podcasts” section of the app (see bottom left or second-from-left). Once you hit “Subscribe,” tap “My Podcasts” to see the The DBC Podcast logo alongside your other podcast subscriptions (or by itself if this is your first rodeo).

Step 5 – Depending on your individual settings, when we upload a new episode to the web (every Monday afternoon), it will either be automatically downloaded to your device, or you will once again see the small cloud with the arrow next to the title. (NOTE: Downloading a podcast episode is similar to downloading a song or album from iTunes. It requires memory on your device. If your device does not have adequate space, the episode may stream directly from the web rather than download as a file. Streaming can eat up your data limit depending on the usage policy and amount in your device’s contract.)

Step 6 – Once you have finished listening to an episode, you can either keep it in your list of downloaded episodes, or delete it (to free up space on your phone). Simply swipe the episode title to the left and an option will appear to delete the episode. (NOTE: Episodes may take several hours to fully disappear from your device.)

Step 7 – Return to this blog, or to the “Reviews” section of iTunes, and leave us a glowing review on how much you enjoy listening to The DBC Podcast!

Downloading or Streaming Episodes Straight from iTunes

Some folks may have a weird hang-up about cluttering their devices with too many apps, or would rather listen to podcasts on their desktop or laptop computer rather than on their mobile devices. If you have an aversion to apps, then you can download or stream episodes of The DBC Podcast directly from the iTunes Store.

Step 1 –  First things first: Open iTunes on your computer. (NOTE: The screen captures below are from a MacBook Air. Your computer desktop, and the iTunes icon, may look different than what is pictured.)

Step 2 – After opening iTunes, you will need to click on the iTunes Store button (depending on your type of computer and the operating system you are using, it may be in a different place than what is pictured below). Once in the store, you want to locate the drop-down list of different parts of the store, and select “Podcasts.”

By clicking on the icon, you will be directed to the main iTunes page for the podcast, which contains a list of all of our episodes, with the most recent listed first.

Step 4 – At this point, you can either click on the episode to begin listening (a.k.a. streaming). Or  you can click on the “Get” button on the right side of each episode title to download. Lastly, you can click on the “Subscribe” button under the logo, in which case each new episode will show up in the “My Podcasts” tab at the top-center of the page (and you will no longer need to go through the actual iTunes Store to find each new episode. You can also share the podcast with a friend. And please don’t forget to leave us a review to tell us what you like about the show, what you could do without, and what topics you would like us to discuss in the future. (NOTE: Podcasts are similar to albums in iTunes, and episodes similar to songs. You can keep them for as long as you want, but each downloaded episode requires hard drive space. You can adjust your settings in iTunes so that the podcasts you subscribe to don’t automatically download, but only prompt you with the little-cloud-with-downward-arrow icon.)

Listening to the Podcast on or with the Soundcloud App

Some people don’t have an aversion to apps so much as they have an aversion to all things Apple. These are the people who own Androids, Kindle Fires, Surface Pros, and maybe even that joke of an iPod competitor called the Zune. We’ll forego the ridicule these non-conformists rightly deserve and, with a commitment to accommodating all manner of folks in this podcasting endeavor, give you some instruction for how to listen to The DBC Podcast without going through iTunes or its associated apps.

Step 1a – To listen to The DBC Podcast online, simply go to and search “DBC Podcast.”
