Godly Gladiators

Who knew when we sat down to talk about the famous “Armor of God” passage from the New Testament (Ephesians 6:10-20) we would touch on subjects as seemingly unrelated as old Nintendo games, bathroom evangelism, and the Ridley Scott film Gladiator?

Most notable to this week’s podcast conversation is the continuity between the metaphor of the pieces of armor and the Apostle Paul’s plea to pray in various ways for various people. We often separate the two, but as this week’s conversation insists, prayer is the most important piece of armor – the most vital component of Paul’s soldier metaphor.

On this episode of The DBC Podcast, Bo sits down with Gene and Marie Jernigan, a “Renaissance” couple within the church who are both involved in a number of things, from Sunday Morning Bible Study leadership, to the Deacon Ministry, to the Prayer Team… and now they can add Podcast Co-Hosts to their repertoire. Gene has been around DBC since before there was a DBC, and he met and married his wife, Marie, on this very campus. From their years of involvement, they have acquired a wealth of deep perspectives on what God is up to in the lives of his faithful ones. And when it comes to the armor of God, the Jernigans really help in demystifying the passage and making Paul’s teaching accessible and practical.
